Yesterday, we reported that filming for J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2 will not be happening until sometime in January 2012. Today, Deadline reports that it’s highly likely that the studio will just have G. I. Joe: Retaliation take the release date of June 29, 2012 that was originally intended for the Star Trek sequel.
Apparently, Abrams hasn’t even begun — let alone completed — the pre-production work necessary for this film. I mean, you need a fuckin’ script, dude. There’s no word in regards to why it’s taken Abrams so long to settle his ass down and get to work (and I’m assuming he knew what he was getting into by putting other projects on his plate as well), but it seems like Star Trek 2 won’t be ready until the end of 2012 or summer 2013. The only thing that we know for sure is that Chris Pine is definitely returning to play Captain Kirk, and that he’s just hanging out and diddling himself until Abrams gets his shit together.
