It’s been 15 years since HBO aired the anthology horror series Tales From the Crypt, based on the EC Comic of the same name, but a new “tale” is planned for television.

Gil Adler, who produced  the HBO series that aired 1989 through 1996 (later spawning two feature films, Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood) will team with Eureka co-creator Andrew Cosby to develop the project. The new hourlong series will neither be anthological nor related to the HBO show. “It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context”. The series will be produced in cooperation with the estate of the late William M. Gaines, and the proposed project will be brought out for sale in the very near future. At this point an extremely detailed bible and “pitch” for the show has been completed.

Uh, WHAT!? What the hell does “using characters from the comic books in a more modern context” mean in an anthology comic where the only consistent character was the Cryptkeeper?

To Recap:

1. not an anthology
2. no host segments from the Cryptkeeper
3. not on HBO

Yea…. someone was literally all like “lets take something awesome and remake it into something completely different, slap the old title on it and run with it”. FUUUU!
