Torchwood’s Chances For Another Season Are Looking Grim

Torchwood’s light of hope for another season is ebbing away as Starz reports that, despite being happy with the sci-fi shows success,  they do not plan on renewing the show for another season.  Even though its premiere showed solid ratings, the show’s future is not as secure as some would suspect. It turns out that this season’s 10 episode order which was an unusual commitment for BBC, was only due to Russell T Davies involvement.  Starz CEO Chris Albrecht attests that it is up to Davies, and that

“… he has a lot of things on his plate. If Torchwood is at the top of his list, that will affect the future of Torchwood.”

The fact that Starz never planned to continue this show after the first season is slightly odd. I mean why waste the time, and energy to build up a sci-fi epic only to have it cut short.  There has been a reasonable amount of positive feedback about the show and continues to pick up steam. Do you agree that it should be left alone at the first season or do you want to see more Torchwood?

Leave your thoughts or comments below, or else a flaming stick will appear at your doorstep. (spooky)

    Noooooooo! Keep Torchwood alive!!!

  • Quentaris

This is season 4 of Torchwood – you really need to do your research.

  • AtheistGotee

torchwood is one of the best sci-fi shows around…..it would be silly for Starz to cut it, especially if it is doing well.

You said “they do not plan on renewing the show for another season”.

But the full article does not say that.

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/07/29/torchwood-may-not-get-renewed/

It sounds like they haven’t decided  yet if or when there will be another season, as it depends on RTD. Also please bare in mind that breaks between seasons are not uncommon for TW. There was a 2 year gap between season 3 and season 4

@Quentaris – Although you are correct, the whole “series” label for Torchwood tends to be confusing.  Technically, Torchwood only had two seasons.  Torchwood: Children of Earth was somewhat considered a stand alone mini-series as (from my understanding) they had no plans to make a season 3.  The same could be said for Torchwood: Miracle Day.  That being said, I do hope Starz and Russell T Davies elect to produce another Torchwood adventure.

Nix it.”Miracle Day” is to Starz what the Edsel was to Ford Motor Company in the late 50′s…At BEST!!!

Nothing but a HORRIBLE redux of The X-Files with a gay theme…

  • Mike

I liked it, i really hope they bring it back

  • TMANNONE

I want another season of Torchwood!  I love the show and didn’t miss a single one!  Starz drops Torchwood.  I will drop Starz because Torchwood is the only reason I pay for Starz!!

  • SonomaCindy

Torchwood has the opportunity to become a legendary franchise like Doctor Who.  I mean Jack Harkness is immortal, and now so is Mekhi Phifer.  Hello!  The possiblities are endless with such immortal hotties.

I only got STARZ because of Torchwood…..  if it’s not coming back, I’ll cancel my subscription to that channel.

  • Bbqueen4

I continue to watch and subscribe to Starz because of TW! Just watched the marathon! I’m seriously considering canceling my subscribtion, only reason I’ve kept it was because I’m waiting for the next season. :-S

  • Kat

since I last posted, I did indeed cancel my subscription to Starz.    I did state that it was due to Torchwood no longer being on, and that the only way I’d renew would be if Torchwood came back with new eps.   This is such a great show.  I am still aggravated that it was sent to Starz instead of being kept with BBC America.

  • Maxtorres74

I think that Torchwood was a really good show and i can only hope to see a second season. The last episode left you with the impression that it would be back for another round. Hope to see it back on Starz.

  • Battleline_3
