First off I’m going to be honest, out of my top 10 films to watch in order to grow up properly Stephen King‘s Pet Sematary is numbers 1 through 4 on that list. Even today watching that fucking undead kid raise hell still creeps the piss straight outta me. But, not as much as news about it’s future remake.
Studio giants Paramount Pictures are close to possibly hiring Piranha 3D director Alexander Aja to direct the long gestating remake of the 1989 classic. The studio is actively trying to get him on board, with talk of a remake happening for what seems like forever and a day. The last thing anyone ever heard of progress on this was that 1408 screenwriter Matthew Greenberg was writing the script.
Alexander is a very busy man though, currently trying to set up his next big project Cobra: The Space Pirate. Since shitty sounding movies still need money and it’s not even scheduled to start shooting until 2013 it looks like Alexander may be signing his name on the dotted line soon.
Like most people it’s not news of a remake that scares me, but the fact that such a shitty fucking director is going to working a project that frankly- he doesn’t deserve to be on. I loved the original film with a passion, it holds a special place in any King fan’s heart. Aja might end up fooling everyone however and make an actual good movie, but I wouldn’t put any faith in it.
For those that are unfamiliar with this classic tale:
“Sometimes dead is better….”
When the Creeds move into a beautiful old house in rural Maine, it all seems too good to be true: physician father, beautiful wife, charming little daughter, adorable infant son — and now an idyllic home. As a family, they’ve got it all…right down to the friendly cat.
But the nearby woods hide a blood-chilling truth — more terrifying than death itself…and hideously more powerful.
Any way this happens though it’s going to happen, not matter who sits in the director chair.
