If you haven’t already gotten the memo, Zack Snyder (who directed 300 and Watchmen) is spearheading the Superman reboot: Man of Steel. Henry Cavill of the Tudors is slated to play the one and only Clark Kent/Superman. I’ve never seen his acting but I have trouble taking him seriously because there was this whole “Henry Cavill as Edward Cullen” movement going on a few years back and, so, I can’t picture him as anything other than a sparkly vampire, let alone Superman.
He spoke with Total Film about the kind of preparation he needs to undertake for this role:
I’m on 5000 calories a day… You’ve got to eat protein first, then a little bit of carbs…you’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going. I’m training two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits, putting on a lot of muscle mass and just making myself look like Superman.
Aaaaaaand… Cavill on suiting up for the very first time!
It’s extremely cool. There’s no other feeling like it.
They just put it on, I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh. I thought ‘OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it…you’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.
I wonder if the whole “I’m playing Superman!” thing will ever actually sink in. But, yes, I lied; Cavill did indeed suit up, but we don’t get to see it — yet.
