Disappointed by the lack of geek-friendly offerings at the San Diego Comic Con? Well never fear, Disney’s got you covered with a fan event of their own: The D23 Expo. The Expo will take place at Disney home base in Anaheim, CA from August 19-21.
So what has Disney got planned for attendees to D23? How about The Muppets, John Carter, Brave, The Avengers, Frankenweenie, Oz: The Great and Powerful, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Wreck-It Ralph, and Monsters University and the 3-D version of The Lion King? Oh, and apparently there will be surprises, and The Hollywood Reporter is under the impression that “surprises” means Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer arriving to promote The Lone Ranger.
So it seems that their privatizing everything nowadays, even conventions. How long will it be till every studio has their own convention, I wonder. Still, one has to go to Anaheim to enjoy the Expo, but one wonders if there’s going to be any genuine news coming out of this or whether it’s just three days of “Hooray for Disney.” I guess we’ll find out August 19th.
