Despite last week’s report from Syfy reps that Eureka would continue for a sixth season, news has just reached the Nerdbastards late night coffee table that Syfy has cancelled Eureka’s sixth season, and the series will end with 13-episodes, which includes a holiday special.
Syfy released this statement on their decision:
“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.”
Cast reaction and More Following the Break
Now last week I reported that there was constant back and forth from Syfy, Colin Ferguson, and different entertainment news affiliates about plans to cancel the show. Syfy immediately quelled everyone’s fears by releasing a statement that even though they didn’t have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, that they were hopeful to continue on with the franchise. With their newest announcement I’m a little pissed off.
Don’t get me wrong at some point in the beginning of the season I felt this same frustrated urge, for the simple fact that (spoiler alert) they change the time stream AGAIN! Really, it seems that the one thing these people are really good at is messing with the past/present/ future lives for the past couple seasons. Yet despite all that, I still loved Colin Ferguson trying so damn hard to win Addison’s love. Zoey’s random shenanigans and outbursts with her father that made her realize in the end how much he loved her, and Joe being the best bad ass gun toting Latina…I think…sidekick of every sheriff’s dream. I am in no way happy with Syfy’s decision to renig on their promised six episodes for the sixth season, but seeing as filming is still underway for the fifth season I’m sure the writers will come up with a way to wrap it all up in a way that will hopefully please all Eureka fans everywhere. (cough cough….Carter marrying Allison…cough cough)
If you are a big fan of the show , tell Syfy to get the heads away from their nether regions and retract their cancellation of the show and join the FB Page “Don’t Cancel Eureka”. There aren’t many words to say…I mean when a good show gets cancelled it feels very bitter sweet, but hey ya never know maybe enough people will bug Syfy enough to bring Eureka back on the air. For now though, I bid Eureka farewell. Until we meet again my friend!
