It’s that time again for the Superhero Roundup. It has all the news that was too small to have its own spotlight, but is too juicy to pass up. Sneak peeks for today’s roundup include:  Special features included on the Thor Blu-ray, opening plans for The Avengers, special features for X-Men: First Class revealing Jennifer Lawrence’s half naked makeup job, and opening sequence for Batman: The Dark Knight Rises leaked.

While Thor is set to be released September 13th, IGN Movies gives a sneak peek at the special features to be included in the DVD. Two of the biggies, other than deleted scenes, is a short film starring Agent Coulson titled “The Consultant” and “Road To The Avengers”. Between the two sneak peeks, the more interesting of the two has to be “The Consultant” which IGN Movies describes as:

“We’d already seen a clip, but the full version provides even more background on the bureaucracy behind the creation of the team. It features Agent Coulson and Agent Sitwell of S.H.I.E.L.D. sitting in a diner in New Mexico discussing a directive from the World Security Council that directly affects the “initiative.” It also gives us a new perspective on the pre-final-credits scene in The Incredible Hulk between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and General Ross (William Hurt). It runs less than four minutes, and includes some footage we’ve seen before, but it is intriguing, and the snappy dialogue seems to fit right in with what we expect from a Joss Whedon-ized Avengers movie.

The other Avengers-related piece is “Road to the Avengers,” a new three-minute montage including clips from all the films so far, along with brief interviews with Whedon and some of the cast members. There’s also footage from the official introduction of the cast to the world at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2010. A good primer to get excited for the new movie, although a bit of a disappointment if you were hoping for new footage or a longer trailer.

There’s a lot of additional footage from Asgard (unfinished, so the effects look rough) that adds to the relationships between the characters, including Thor and Loki, Thor and Frigga, Frigga and Odin and Frigga and Loki (Rene Russo gets quite a bit of additional screen time here). There’s also more of the Warriors 3 and Sif, both in Asgard and on Earth. Of all the scenes, probably the biggest loss is the bond between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Stellan Skarsgård’s Selvig. In a continuation of the bar scene, they sing a traditional drinking song together, later on, we see Thor heal him after a life-threatening injury using a bit of Asgardian magic.”

With Avengers on the brain we move on to our next piece of news, which is so small and unclear that it leaves me with a question mark over my head. But hey, you may glean something I didn’t out of the this info.  ComicBookMovie friend, Rick Kinkade, made a visit to The Avengers headquarters in Albuquerque where Joss Whedon released some cryptic information on the film.  He revealed that despite initially wanting to establish the Wasp into the film he stated, “I tried to write her in, but I could not make it work.” Now this may not seem like much of a shocking reveal, but what may peak more interest is Whedon’s plan to bring back actress Joan Leslie through some intricate CGI manipulation. ComicBookMovie describes it best below:

“Whedon is planning to digitally recreate her image (Whedon described this as “Gumping” in reference to using CG in a historical significance ala Forrest Gump) in a newsreel, similar to Citizen Kane as a way to start the film back in the 40s. He used a film Leslie was in called This is the Army and will lift footage out of that. The newsreel supposedly would feature Leslie as Cap’s girlfriend, which of course, would not be canon with Captain America: The First Avenger, but I have a theory. In the days of the 40s, tabloid journalism was a lot different. News hounds basically had to make up their own information and hope that their guesses were right. My idea is that Leslie is coupled with Cap as a kind of “celebrity couple” akin to Katherine Hepburn and Howard Hughes’ relationship”

Another movie set to be released on DVD is X-Men: First Class, which has just leaked special feature footage of our favorite naked X-Men, Mystique. The video below shows a team of 6 makeup artists going to work on airbrushing the scaly-blue thin sheath costume. It may seem hard to fathom how someone can go through six hours of makeup just to film in the costume for an hour, but this girl has got the gutzpah to be so dedicated.

So this and many other special features make this DVD, which is set to release Friday, September 9th, something to look forward to.

Finally to wrap things up we end with Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, which is making ripples at the Nerdbastards water cooler with leaked information.  A local new affiliate revealed that while filming in Wales, Brecon Beacons is to be used as the waterfall entrance to the new batcave. The interiors of this batcave have been built on a sound stage in Los Angeles. Seeing as Wane Manor is burned to ground in the second film and the batcave was in Wane Manor, we can all just assume that Wane is gonna get some new digs. Batman is obviously coming into his own, building the headquarters that is his staple in the franchise, and is a set up for a very dramatic opening.
