With X-Men: First Class dropping this week on DVD and Blu-ray producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been making the rounds, press wise. While promoting First Class she’s also been taking questions on the progress of The Wolverine and what’s actually happening with that Deadpool movie.
Turns out The Wolverine might be pushed back and won’t begin shooting till 2012. Bummer. Really it all hangs on Hugh Jackman‘s schedule, and I think we can all agree we don’t want a Wolverine flick without Jackman. Shuler says,
[We want] to distinguish it from the other one… It’s much more of a standalone [movie]… I’m not sure when we’ll start. Maybe summer 2012 we’ll start shooting. It’s based on Hugh’s schedule, frankly. When he’s available, we’ll film. …He’s doing ‘Les Miserables’, and then he has to come and train for us. So it’s all dependent on him.
Yes, please distinguish it from Wolverine: Origins. That movie was painful to watch. Jackman is brilliant as Wolverine, his short cameo in First Class was better than the entirety of Origins. Speaking of Wolverine: Origins, what did Shuler have to say about including Deadpool in that piece of trash,
Yes he was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him.
Great! So this Deadpool movie will be true to the character and not the weird muted freak we saw at the end of Origins, right?
We’re working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look… It’s a different kind of movie. If you know ‘Deadpool’…it’s true to ‘Deadpool’. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that.
We have a few more things to do. And then it’s up to the studio to decide whether we’re going to go forward or not… But I’m pretty excited. We have a good script and a good director [Tim Miller].
Yes! This, I believe, is what we fans needed to hear. Does this news about the progress on Deadpool relieve any of your fears? When do you think The Wolverine will finally show up in theatres? And will it be the ass-kickin’ Wolverine flick we’ve been craving?
