I’m sure y’all remember Sabrina The Teenage Witch! You can still find it on TV occasionally, around those times where nobody really bothers to watch TV.
Archie Comics and Moonscoop Entertainment will be partnering up to create a computer animated version of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, set to hit networks by October of 2012.
Here’s what the LA Times had to say about it:
This is the first new animation for Sabrina in almost 10 years,” says [Archie CEO Jon Goldwater]. “It’s a combination of ‘Twilight’ meets ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’… she’s more modern.
Story wise, the project aims to be more action-oriented than previous incarnations like ABC’s short-lived Saturday morning “Sabrina: the Animated Series” (1999-2000) or the sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart that ran from 1996-2003 on both ABC and then the WB network.
“It’s a little more dealing in the supernatural realm,” Goldwater says.
Even Salem, the magical cat, will be re-imagined – he’s a tad more naughty this time around.
…“With Harry Potter coming to an end, we wanted to fill that void,” says MoonScoop CEO Mike Young. “She’s a teenage girl with superpowers for god’s sake. So Sabrina fits perfectly.”
Ignore the name dropping; it’ll make you rage, especially because Twilight and Buffy are in the same sentence. Also ignore the fact that there’s no real relation between Sabrina, Twilight, Buffy and Harry Potter except that the latter three were huge cult phenomena.
Honestly, I think they could do better.
