By The Gods! A ‘Thor 2’ News Roundup

In case you forgot… Thor 2 will be Branagh-less. One director in particular, may be closer then we think to replacing Mr. Branagh. Patty Jenkins is heavily favored to get the job. If she gets the gig, she’ll be the first female director of a Marvel Studios’ movie (Lexi Alexander’s Punisher: War Zone doesn’t count. T’was a FOX film). Jenkins  discussed the possibility with Vulture:

I can’t say , but yes. I can’t say anything definitive, but it’s exciting to be in talks with them about it…I think Marvel is really ballsy to think outside the box, and I think everyone they’ve talked to and hired has been interesting.

In other words, she already has the job, she just can’t make the official announcement. If Patty is in fact the director of Thor 2 it would be very interesting, and by Odin’s beard a fantastic film.

Speaking of beards, a bearded Chris Hemsworth spoke with L.A. Times in eastern Wales in between shooting Snow White and the Huntsman, briefly talking about #1 choice Patty working on Thor 2. He even revealed he has already met with Jenkins. Heh,  ff that doesn’t doesn’t sound like an employee meeting his boss, I don’t know what does.

Here’s what Chris had to say:

“She has a great take on the story and a solid grasp on that kind of universe…[Kenneth] Branagh read every comic book he could get his hands on,” Hemsworth said. “She also looked like she had done her homework.”

This sounds like a match made in the heavens, a superstar reprising his role and a director that knows the material. Thor 2 is rumored to be a literal journey to other words for Thor, as well as resolving daddy issues with the all -father Odin and the continued love interest in Jane Foster. Sounds fun.

THOR 2 hits theaters everywhere July 26, 2013.
