Back in 2008 Matthijs Van Heijningen Jr., the Dutch director behind the Thing prequel and Zack Snyder, the dude that gave us 300, The Watchmen, that tickle porn no one saw Sucker Punch, were prepping to make “Army of the Dead”. A zombie epic about a father who teams with some mercenaries to save his daughter from zombies in a quarantined Las Vegas in the not-too-distant future. Sounds awesome right? Well, recently while talking to the Playlist, Heijningen made it sound as though the undead flick might not be dead:
“It would be nice to do it. That was the Zack Snyder project. And it was in a very far stage – it was like three months before shooting. But then the [financial] crisis hit in 2008 and everybody got shrinked, so that just basically was put on hold. So maybe that’s going to be revived, because it’s a good project.”
Over at i09, they too grilled Matthijs for some information on the project. Basically with Zack producing, if the studio is interested, it may still happen and they will be fast zombies. When asked how long the zombification process would be in the film, um, the Dutch director said this instead:
“There’s an extra dimension to this zombie film, because they…. they…. I’m still wondering if I should tell this…. the male zombies rape human females. Yes. And they have human hybrid zombie offsprings. It’s a new take on the zombie genre, which is crazy.”
Well, that sure answers a question no one has never asked. Ever.
IMDB still lists the movie as in in development and 2013 for the year, so maybe?
