Nerdy Bits, The Sh*t You Skipped: White (Betty) Power, A TARDIS made of Party Balloons, “The Geeks Will Inherit the Earth” Music Video, Kenny Loggins and MOAR
Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.
Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the 1980s, Kenny Loggins was the the go-to-guy for movie sound track. He’s was responsible for such classics as Top Gun (Danger Zone), Caddyshack (I’m Alright), Footloose (Footloose). Our friends over at Funny or Die embrace his legacy by having Loggins and his new band Blue Sky Riders perform theme songs to The Help, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Real Steel, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, The Hunger Games and two for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
In this first video you’ll see The Help, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
The second video has Real Steel, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, The Hunger Games and another for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
If Betty White ever runs for political office….
From Joker to Stormtroopers and Gears of War to Darth Vader this video was made entirely from using “normal” cosplayers lingering around at the FanExpo 2011 and asked to perform some stunts. Each cosplayer was filmed all on the fly with no rehearsals and then edited into the fun you are watching above.

*sigh* queue up Bob Dylan’s “Times are a Changin'”. This is so true and I hate it, or rather “I just don’t understand”.
One of the new features (cool shit you’ll never use… like facetime) in Apple’s new iPhone 4S is a virtual personal assistant program named Siri. The new software, which is built into the core operating system, allows users to ask questions or create tasks using natural speech. While that’s neato enough, Apple tossed in a few Nerd easter eggs. Namely, Siri responds to, and references, Stanley Kubrick‘s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Douglas Adams‘ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
When you ask Siri to “Open the pod bay doors” she responds: “We intelligent agents will never live that down, apparently.”
She also responds to the question “What is the meaning of life?” with a reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Here is a screenshot:
I won’t pretend to know a goddamn thing about WoW (never played it. Yea.. 100 nerd demerits for that admittance), but this cute cartoon shows the 3 most common responses of WoW talk on a first date.
Here’s Fight Dragons just released this video for their single “The Geeks Will Inherit the Earth” off of their debut album KABOOM! which drops October 24. It’s a toe-tapping, smirkin’ jingle. . Catchy, upbeat, and definitely empowering to all of those geeks and nerdlings that had to deal with all the crap that they go through in school/life in general.
