Did you know zombies are totally the new vampires? With The Walking Dead making cable ratings its prison bitch it’s only a matter of time before the big 4 networks try to cash in. Well, apparently that time has already passed because Fox TV is hard at work on a Zombieland TV series. That will apparently be a sitcom.
Zombieland producer, Gavin Polone, says the movie was originally pitched as a TV show. CBS even ordered a pilot script for the show back in 2005, but according to Polone “they did what networks do, which is to take all the good stuff out.” They then took it to SyFy, who wanted it but couldn’t figure out how to pay for it and eventually it was twisted into the big screen blockbuster we saw 2 years ago.
As one of the writers, Rhett Reese, said to MTV News a year ago, “We always thought [it should be a TV series]. If you watch the movie with that in mind, you will see some remnants of the television show. We have the ‘Zombie Kill of the Week,’ which was always intended to happen every week. The movie ends on a cliffhanger; it doesn’t have a real resolution.”
Both writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick onboard and reportedly working on a sequel that will not happen should plans to bring the show to TV bear fruit. The stars of the movie – Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin – obviously won’t be in it because they are movie stars not TV stars (et tu, Woody?) and of course this all hinges on Fox actually moving a head with a good idea for once…
*audience groans as I have clearly stretched this premise far past entertaining*
Who knows, might happen… hell, it might even be good! The notion of a sitcom worries me slightly but I am willing to open my heart to another zombie based TV show, how about you?
