Is it possible to make a film and keep it secret while you’re making what’s arguably the biggest superhero film of all time? Ask Joss Whedon because it seems he’s done just that by squeezing in a film version of the William Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing.
So what do we know? Well look at the poster below and you now know as much as we do. So who’s in it? Only a Who’s Who of Whedonverse alums, including Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Buffy, and Dr. Horrible) as Dogberry, Amy Acker (Angel and Dollhouse) as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel, and Dollhouse) as Benedick, Sean Maher (Firefly) as Don John, Reed Diamond (Dollhouse) as Don Pedro, Tom Lenk (Buffy) as Verges, and Fran Kranz (Dollhouse and The Cabin in the Woods) as Claudio, as well as Clark Gregg, a.k.a. Agent Coulson from Iron Man, Thor, and The Avengers as Leonarto.
Whedon-o-philes know that the filmmaker holds readings of Shakespeare plays in his home on a semi-regular basis, so he knows the material. But the real question is how Whedon was able to make another film while making The Avengers? Not to mention his involvement in the Buffy Season 9 comics, a post-apocalyptic webseries with Warren Ellis and the pending 2012 release of the long gestating Cabin in the Woods. Basically, Whedon’s making us all look like slackers.
So to do shall we make of Much Ado? Excited to see a Shakespeare movie by Whedon? Sound off below.
