Never has a title been so true, so hilarious and so simple as that of Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. It’s an irreverent, juvenile, over-the-top, outrageously violent, love letter to comic books and superheroes. Suffice to say, it was well received in the nerd community. Eh, give us nerds some chaos and cartoonish gimmicks and we’re a happy bunch. Anyway, since the release of the movie based on the comic of the same name, there has been sequel talk. However, indifference between actors and creatives (Director Matthew Vaughn and writer Jane Goldman are working on other projects) has led to it not being bloody likely. A spin-off however, may be in the works…

Hit-Girl, the 11-year-old that massacred a room full of baddies to the tune of The Banana Splits Theme, may get her own flick. Mind you, there is no official news on this, it’s pure speculation. Here’s why:

Mark Millar, the writer of the comic from which the film was adapted, has been teasing a “huge announcement” that will make Kick Ass 2 fans “very happy”. Which is strange, because the only Kick-Ass 2 we know of is the upcoming comic book series.

Hit-Girl herself, Chloe Moretz suggested (via an interview with MTV news) that regarding Kick Ass 2 there was news…”Something, something we’ve got up our sleeves.”

Are they hinting at a now-planned Hit Girl movie? Goodness knows Kick-Ass was best as a movie whenever Hit Girl was on the screen. I think Mark Millar has perhaps realized that fans would much rather watch a Hit Girl movie rather than Kick-Ass 2. In fact, Millar has been publicly pointing out the preponderence of people dressing up as Hit Girl in Cosplay as of late. Not that that means anything, but it does sorta feed into the suspicion. Furthermore, there was a  Hit Girl mini series meant to launch in September, set between Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2 to fill the gaps in delayed shipping, but it got dropped. It’s rumored this material was going rewritten as to be a sequel to Kick Ass 2 – with Hit-Girl being a lot older. So… maybe this unused work is instead being cherry picked for a stand alone movie?

Again, we’re being speculative bastards. This “huge announcement” could be anything. It might even be an Kick-Ass 2 announcement – with a new writer and director. Will see.
