Pixar Update: New Images & Details for ‘Brave’, First Look at “Small Fry” the Next ‘Toy Story’ Short, Plus the Bizarre ‘Toy Story’ Clothing Line From Hong Kong
While we’re eagerly awaiting the full trailer for Pixar‘s Brave, supposedly releasing tomorrow, we have found a few new images and some more plot details. The newest film from the studio that can’t fail (We’ll just agree to forget about Cars 2.) follows the adventures of a fiery, Scottish princess, Merida, who has no interest in landing a prince, but is more concerned with her archery and exploring the wilderness. This movie will also mark the first time a Pixar film features a female protaganist. It’s only taken 12 films, but thanks to the courageous performances from heroines like Jessie and Eve, we finally have a chick in the lead. This readers, is progress for gender equality in animated productions.
Anyway, a preview of the film is being distrubuted by the Associated Press and it reveals a few more details about the flick,
Merida’s father tells of the 12-foot-tall beast with razor-sharp claws, a face scarred with a dead eye and “hide littered with the weapons of fallen warriors,” that chomped off his leg while the rebellious Merida transverses a lush forest, ascends a mountain and lands a bull’s eye at a tournament.
Other imagery teased in the new trailer includes Merida encountering mystical blue-hued wisps and the gnarly bear that took her father’s leg.
Over at Empire, they’ve collected some spectacular, good quality images of Brave‘s characters, check ’em out below.
Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly MacDonald) is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) andQueen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman(Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
Brave arrives in theaters June 22nd, 2012.

The second of the Toy Story Shorts is set to premiere in front of The Muppets, opening next week (KermitFlail!!!) on November 23rd. Their first short, “Hawaiian Vacation” was attached to Cars 2. I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it was better than the entirety of Cars 2. And I believe it.
Clearly the Pixar animators, writers, etc. are finding it hard to let the Toy Story gang go, and if they can keep cranking out these awesome shorts, they’re totally allowed to keep playing in the toy box.
Check out the short tease of the newest Toy Story Short, “Small Fry” about a Happy Meal-like toy who switches places with Buzz Lightyear.
A transforming t-bone steak? I am so there, Pixar!

And finally, I saved the really weird news of this Pixar update for last. Apparently, Hong Kong fashion label, Bossini, is releasing a line of clothing based on the Toy Story films. And, as can really only be expected of designer fashion, it features some really bizarre articles of clothing. Like above, what the fuck is that woman doing? Is she strangling herself with a scarf made to look like Jessie’s braid?
This news was brought to the attention of us state side by Toy Story 3 director, Lee Unkrich who tweeted, “I’m told they’ll only be in Disney Stores in the U.S., and that they’ll likely be hard to find.” So, uh, good luck to those of you who really want to own a creepy, Pizza Planet alien sweat shirt.

All right, which bit ‘o’ Pixar news are you most excited about? Brave? Toy Story’s “Small Fry”? Or the really weird Toy Story fashion line? I know, it’s the fashion line. Even I have to admit the Woody flannel shirt, is kind of cool.
