Oh Star Trek, just when I thought I could quit you. We know the movie is shooting for a May 2013 release, we know that J.J. Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro to star as the films villain, and now new casting news has come out that has me officially excited. Let’s just say it has a certain appeal to it, her, sex appeal, oh you know what I mean.
Variety is reporting that Alice Eve (previously rumored to be nerd bait in films such as Captain America: The First Avenger and X-Men: First Class) is Abrams’ choice to play a new female character in the next Star Trek movie. Best known for her lead role in She’s Out Of My League and her part in the final season of Entourage. Eve will play a character totally new to the Star Trek universe (so at least there that will stop any rumors she’s playing Kahn). She reportedly beat out several other young actresses, like Teresa Palmer and Hayley Atwell, for the role (please tell me it came down to a pillow fight… please?) Wonder what kind of character she’ll play, good girl? Bad girl? Love interest for Kirk? It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
Something else of note via Variety, Abrams is still looking to cast the role of another major villain, “someone who’s older and in more of a supporting character to del Toro.” Ok trekkies, come on, let’s use our combined encyclopedic knowledge of Star Trek, that has to give us an idea who Benicio is playing.
Before we close this, remmeber the grain of salt. Saying she’s Abrams’ choice, and doesn’t say that she has been offered the role or has accepted it. She did skip out two of the best nerd movies of the summer, would she do that a third time?
