After it’s 20 year run, the famed JAWS: The Ride will finally close its gaping robotic maw of death. Universal Studios Orlando has just announced that this coming January they will close the attraction down permanently. Based on a movie that’s almost 40 years old, the ride has been a mainstay attraction to park goers since it opened in 1990. Reportedly being closed to “make room for an exciting, NEW, experience.”
Check out the official word after the jump.
Hey fans, we want you to be the first to know… JAWS! and the Amity area will officially close on January 2 to make room for an exciting, NEW, experience we’re planning for you. We know you love JAWS! and we do too. It has been an amazing attraction and after terrorizing the waters of Amity here at Universal Orlando for 20 years, it’s a VERY important part of our history. So, we’ve got a couple things planned to ensure we always remember and honor it. We know it’s hard to say goodbye, but we can’t express how EXCITED we are about the new, innovative & amazing experience we’re going to be bringing you.
Damn it, I never go to go see it and I highly doubt I can make there before the box everything up and sell the giant robo-shark on eBay. Hmmmm, here’s a clip from some random internet person on vacation taking in all the glory of JAWS: The Ride.
Well, um… that… that makes me feel better about never seeing it. That was cheesey and rather boring. Time to swim off into the sunset, Mr. Jaws.
Oh and… on a completely unrelated (other than it also being a shark) here’s a clip from the movie Strange Wilderness.
