Next July we get The Dark Knight Rises and no matter how the movie does it will be bitter sweet. Both Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have made it clear that it will be the end of a trilogy for the director and actor respectively. That also means that its the end for Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and that feminine touch of the lovely Anne Hathaway, their first time in a Batman movie will also be their last. Or will it? Commissioner Gordon thinks differently.
Gary Oldman, the notable British actor and unofficial sidekick to the Dark Knight in this part of the franchise, believes that even after the end of this trilogy Warner Bros. will still want to continue the adventures of Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego :
“Yeah, yeah. For us I think it’s the end. Whether they will make more, my guess is probably. I mean, they don’t have Potter anymore. So, there could be a Batman 4 and 5. It may be Chris overseeing it in a producorial position, but for us and for Chris I think that’s it. It’s a great way to go out though. It’s a great story. Epic, epic thing it is.”
See? It’s those kinda smarts that make you rise in the ranks of Gotham PD, he knows the WB will want more Batman movies in the future, GENIUS! With the end of the Harry Potter cash cow upon them the studio heads will be lighting up their own personal bat-signal for assistance. Add in the rumors that DC and Warner Bros both want a Justice League movie in the worst way, not to mention the hotly debated rumor that Nolan might actually end his run by killing off Batman. Well, what could happen? Yes, we can say the WB will want more Batman on the silver screen ASAP, that’s a no brainer, but will Nolan have anything to do with it?
“I think Chris strikes me as someone who’s too smart and he’s sort of too classy to just sort of make a third for the sake of making it. I don’t think that’s who he is. I remember way back saying to him, ‘”Is there going to be a third?” He said, “If I can get the story right. I’ve got to outdo myself. I’ve got to do it better than The Dark Knight. I’ve just got to get it right.” He set the bar very high, and so he said, “If I can find a story that interests me I will do it.” I think also it’s genius that he’s picked Bane as the villain, that he didn’t go with The Riddler or The Penguin. I think right there is a wise choice.”
While we are on the topic of the Nolanverse Batman, The Dark Knight Rises viral marketing campaign spit out a CIA Bulletin about a certain Dr. Leonid Pavel. You can check it out after the jump.
These appeared earlier on Wired and Empire – “Dr. Leonid Pavel”, played by actor Alon Abutbul. Who he is and how he fits into the film remains to be seen, but judging by the blacked out sentences the “good” doctor is quite the target.
What do you think of another trilogy? The marketing?
