Remember when The Incredibles came out, and everyone thought it was awesome? Sadly, this awesomeness never translated into a sequel yet, and that’s despite the fact that superhero movies continue to be boffo business at box office.

But in a twist of fate, that’s precisely the reason why there’s yet to be an Incredibles 2, according to director Brad Bird. “What the world needs now is another superhero sequel!” Bird joked to MTV News while promoting his first live-action film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

But it’s not a lack of ideas that’s keeping the filmmaker from diving into an Incredibles sequel, says Bird.

“I haven’t got it all figured out yet. I’ve got a lot of ideas that I originally intended to be in the first movie, and you have to start throwing things out of the balloon at a certain point to get it up in the air. But a lot of the things you throw out are really cool. … I love those characters and if I could make [a sequel] that was to Incredibles what the Toy Story sequels were to Toy Story I’d do it.”

Clearly, as fans, we need to make our desire known. We’d rather see an Incredibles sequel than The Avengers any day!!!
