From Summit Entertainment, the same studio that brought you the Twilight films, comes Warm Bodies, the love story of a zombie and the human girlfriend of one of his victims.
Not joking. This is a real movie. Here’s star Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) as the, “existentially-tormented zombie named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world.”
This photo is disappointing. No other way to put it, he looks like he could be a distant relative of Twilight‘s vampire family, the Cullens. He just wears a bit more dark eye shadow. This guy hardly looks dead! But of course, we’re supposed to identify him as the romatice lead so he must look the part. What a handsome zombie.
I was initially intrigued by this idea of a zombie romance. If you’ve ever read the novel, Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament by S.G. Browne, it features a quite beautiful relationship between two zombies, decaying flesh and all. This film didn’t seem to want to take that kind of daring approach and appears to be nothing more than fodder for Twi-hards.
What do you think? Am I being to harsh? I haven’t read the novel by Isaac Marion so maybe it’s not so terrible as it looks. I’m just unimpressed with the zombie-ness of the zombie.
