This guy is quite the pretty boy. Director Fede Alvarez has gone through plenty of young actors wiling to get killed on film and, according to Variety’s Justin Kroll, our pretty boy Shiloh Fernandez is the chosen one.
Fernandez, who recently starred in the dark fantasy film Red Riding Hood, has been reported to be playing David, the brother to the female lead, Mia in FilmDistrict and Mandate’s Evil Dead reboot. And with Lily Collins dropping out due to reported “schedule issues” two weeks ago, this leaves Fernandez without a female lead to co-star alongside him. Bummer.
As we’ve previously reported, the Evil Dead will not be a complete re-telling of the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell franchise. Rather it will be a combination of new and old material. Instead of just heading out into a remote cabin in the woods like they do in the original, David and his friends drag Mia, David’s drug abusing sister, to a remote hideaway in hopes of getting her to detox. Naturally, things turn to hell as one friend discovers the fabled Necronomicon and unwittingly releases unimaginable evil on the group. Is it all just everyone’s imagination or is something sinister intent on picking off everyone one by one?
With Mia being the Ash-like character in the movie, that leaves David to be the proverbial female in distress. Let’s hope he doesn’t run into the woods alone. We all know how that ends.
