The title is really all you have to read. Like a bad vd, it looks like the the film franchise loosely based on what a coked out studio exe once overheard about a beloved 80’s toy line will assault the silver screen once again. Paramount announced today that a forth Transformers movie will be hitting theaters the summer of 2014. Seems feasible, spend about 20 minutes on the script and then you have at least 18 months to work on the robot testicle physics.

Now here is the real kicker,  as producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said to MTV News “Michael (Bay)‘s going to direct it and it will be in the summer of 2014. He’s a cool customer, he’s excited and I think the challenge there is that we are really are going to do a reboot and what that’s going to be we don’t even know yet.”

IT’S GOING TO BE A REBOOT! Are we at that point where reboots enter the planning phase before the last one is out?

Well, a soft reboot of sorts.  Bonaventura explains “it’s a hybrid, I’m not involved with Spider-Man, but what I perceive Spider-Man to be is a redoing of the whole thing. [Transformers] is not. It’s an evolution, there’s still continuity that’s going on and yet there will be a lot of new cast and whether there will be anyone from the old cast we don’t even know yet. It’s going to be a whole new story. The characters who will come along will be Optimus and Bumblebee I’m sure.”

So, it’s a reboot hybrid? Well, it’ll get wicked gas mileage at least. When asked about the casting rumors regarding Jason Statham, he said: “No, it’s so silly. We’ve got to get a story first.” – K, now Lorenzo is just messing with us. The story for this one and 5th are already scrawled on the back of a cocktail napkin from a strip club and he knows it.

As for Michael Bay? He’s confirmed to be back in the directors chair, he posted this on his official website earlier. “There has been a lot of speculation about what I’m going to do next and when or if I will do another Transformers. So let me set the record straight. I have just concluded a deal with Paramount to do two movies, but it won’t be two Transformers. I will first do ‘Pain & Gain’ with Mark Wahlberg and . Then I will do the next Transformers for release on June 29, 2014.”
