To which I say, “YES! Give me more Michael Fassbender!!” Really, that’s all I need to be happy. Fassbender moving metal shit with his mind and having many, many sexy, subtext-laden conversations with James McAvoy.
Hey, a girl can have her fantasies, too.
Anyway, MTV chatted with X-Men: First Class‘ screenwriter, Simon Kinberg about writing First Class and what we’ll be seeing in the sequel,
I’m a huge X-Men fan. I grew up loving the comic books and it was really exciting to be able to do the origin story of Xavier and Magneto, and getting those two actors, [James] McAvoy and [Michael] Fassbender, were really amazing. So being able to explore those characters with actors of that quality will be exciting a second time around, and doing some things unexpected with those characters, which is the plan.
That’s what was so cool about the first one and what we want to continue. Magneto becomes the villain ultimately of the franchise but he’s a much more complicated character as a young man. He’s someone you sympathize with, you care about you root for even though might not necessarily agree with his methods, you understand his philosophy.
More Erik and Charles! Thank you, Simon for reading my mind. Now please leave before things get dirty.
Seriously, screw the rest of those mutants, they’re boring. The most captivating storyline in First Class is Erik’s journey from victim to hero to villain. Hopefully we get more of this in the sequel.
I think the truth is ultimately that because Michael is such an interesting actor, he’ll never be full-on anything. He’ll have a villainous side and he’ll have a sympathetic human side you’ll be able to relate but you’ll also be afraid of him. He becomes Magneto, he says ‘Call me Magneto’ at the end of the first movie.
Oh, and please give him an awesome Magneto costume. The one at the end of First Class is laughable. It looks like something he pulled together that morning and only because you have Fassbender wearing it does it not look completely ridiculous. But guys, come on, you can give him a better outfit than that.
