Whoa, guys. Whoa. Watching this teaser for Darth Maul‘s return on Star Wars: The Clone Wars gave me chills. All the awesome of Maul that was promised and not delivered in Episode I, is here.
Tell me that didn’t get you pumped for this new arc on Clone Wars!? My favorite story line last year was learning about the Nightsisters and Nightbrothers on Dathomir, Maul’s homeworld. An excellent part of Clone Wars has been exploring the notion that not only Jedi and Sith can wield the power of the Force. And with that knowledge I just know the battles between Maul, Obi-Wan, Ventress, Savage Opress, Grievous and Dooku are going to be incredible!
Here’s a quick setup for the season ending arc from USA Today,
In the upcoming Clone Wars arc, General Grievous launches an attack on Maul’s homeworld of Dathomir, and Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters has told Savage Opress (voiced by Clancy Brown) about Darth Maul, sending Opress on a quest to find his long-lost brother.
And you can see how it’ll play out in the above trailer. Dave Filoni, the director of Clone Wars, also shared a few things that’ll be different about Maul upon his return. For one, you probably noticed it in the trailer, but he’s got mechanical legs! Filoni said the story of how he survived bisection will be dark and dramatic and that his face-off with Obi-Wan will have, “a lot of want for revenge in his mind, what he’s been thinking about through what must have been a terrible trial.” And sadly, he won’t have the duel-bladed lightsaber, but only a fragment of what’s left. Kind of like his mind. Sam Witwer, who’ll be voicing Maul in Clone Wars, talked about the crazy mess Maul’s become in an article we shared earlier.
Darth Maul returns on Star Wars: The Clone Wars March 9th.
