What a great treat to kick off your weekend, right? At the moment both season seven of Doctor Who and Star Trek 2 are filming and, as expected, we’re getting out first glimpses of the action on set. Obviously, if you’d like to not be spoiled about either of these, do not proceed.
Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill and Mark Williams have been shooting on location for a few days and after earlier images of them arriving on set, we now have photographic evidence of them running, jumping and generally looking bewildered. It’s Doctor Who, what did you expect?
These beach scenes are being filmed at Dunraven Bay, Southerndown, known to Whovians as Bad Wolf Bay. Does that mean we again see the alternate Earth where the Doctor ditched Rose Tyler? Hmm. Also, I’m feeling fairly certain Williams is playing Mr. Williams, as in Rory’s father. Don’t know why, I’ve just got a feeling.
Back across the pond that other titan of science of fiction, Star Trek, is living on in the sequel to J.J. Abrams 2009 film reboot. These are our very first look at the set of Star Trek 2 and they’re some fantastic, action-packed shots! What’s really great is they feature newcomer to the franchise, Benedict Cumberbatch, who everyone thinks is the flick’s villain. These photos don’t do much to persuade me he’s not the baddie.
We can see Cumberbatch is at odds with both Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana), so I can’t imagine he’s not somehow involved in the villainous plot of this sequel, whether as a pawn or the mastermind. I love that top image so much, what an intense Vulcan neck pinch. Damn.
All right, of the two, Doctor Who and Star Trek 2, which are you more excited for?
