For months, people have speculated the connection between Ridley Scott‘s original 1979 Alien and his 2012, 3D follow-up Prometheus. Everyone has had their own insane theories. Obviously there’s a connection, there’s just gotta be (Damn thing even looks like Alien). Well, sitting down with a Hungarian website, Scott revealed a special tidbit of information on his latest venture. In the interview he may have acknowledged a possible connection between the two films. *Gasp*
Scott revealed that name of the character Guy Pearce will play in the film (which was already revealed by way of IMDB). The quote says that character is the only link between the movies. Not the aliens, not the Weyland-Yutani corporation, only one man.
Sounds too absurd to be true right? It might very well be, as Scott’s quote comes from IC Press via Mozinezo.hu (thanks to AVP Galaxy and Latino Review). The problem is that one twitter follower claims the site never even spoke to Scott, so anything they claim he said could be a cruel joke. Thankfully Slash Film contacted Fox Studios to get some kind of straight answer.
Fair warning, this is a Spoiler Alert:
When the first ‘Alien’ movie and ‘Blade Runner’ were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner’, and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien’. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.
The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.
Even if it’s coming from the source themselves this does seem kind of fishy, Ridley has been trying to keep this project under a tight lock and key, so why bother to leak such information if they want you to be surprised?
Prometheus is scheduled for a June 8th release, that’s less than four months away people.
