Looks like final preparations are underway for Jose Padilha‘s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 cult classic film, RoboCop. The proverbial dominoes are falling in line – Joel Kinnaman was recently locked down to play the lead character and today, studio distribution was announced.
Deadline broke the news, stating the MGM produced feature was recently picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures. Why is this important? Well, if they shoot the fucking thing and don’t have a distributor… you’d never actually see Alexander James Murphy back in uniform. In other words, this means the reboot is officially happening and we’ll live to see it. I will leave it to you to decide if this is good or bad news.
For me, I’d rather not see this remade. I love the original too damn much. However, I am slightly intrigued to see what Jose Padilha will do with it. I’ve watched Elite Squad 1 and 2 and don’t see how Padilha could make an action movie that isn’t at least a visual orgasm.
