X-Men: First Class completely reinvigorated the the mutant franchise and we’re all eagerly awaiting its sequel. It’s supposedly scheduled to begin shooting in the fall, which is why Jennifer Lawrence’s summer schedule is going to be tight, and we’ve heard the sequel is going to explore Magneto’s development even more thoroughly. But with all these snippets we still don’t really know what to expect from X-Men: First Class 2.
At last night’s Empire Awards, Red Carpet News caught up with both Magneto and Xavier, I mean, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy to see what they could squeeze out of the two about First Class 2.
In their chat with Fassbender they discussed a variety of topics: who are his heroes?, is he interested in writing?, what’s it like working with Steve McQueen? But what we’re most interested in is what he has to say about First Class 2. Jump to about 1:00 minute mark for some X-Men talk,
In addition to the chat about X-Men, Fassbender talks vaguely about Prometheus,
So, it appears Fassbender expects First Class 2 to begin shooting soon, what about McAvoy? Well, he must be outta of the loop ’cause he hasn’t got a clue! Also, he confirms what we’ve all expected, his and Fassbender’s incredible, palpable chemistry was due to them being very, very, very close. I knew it!
And finally, Bleeding Cool contributor Ben Mortimer caught up with screenwriter Jane Goldman on the red carpet as well. While they mostly talked about The Woman in Black, around the 1:30 minute mark Mortimer is able to get a few hints about First Class 2‘s progress.
It’s good to hear Goldman is working on the script. Not to diss the first draft by Simon Kinberg, but Goldman nailed it with First Class so I can’t wait to see what she’s got planned for round two.
And, is it just me, or is does interviewer Mortimer sound a little nervous? Maybe he had trouble averting his eyes from Goldman’s hard to miss cleavage. I know I had trouble looking away.
What are you hoping we’ll see in X-Men: First Class‘ sequel?
