Seeing Smaug realized on the big screen is definitely one of the highlights Hobbit fans are looking forward to. Might the sweaters the crew were wearing in the latest Hobbit set video offer a clue as to what the dragon will look like? Maybe, take a look.
You’ll notice this looks quite a bit like a famous illustration by John Howe (seen above), but could it also be the inspiration for the movie’s Smaug? I think it’s likely we’ll see something similar for Smaug but I wouldn’t go so far as saying this logo from the crew’s “200 Days to Go” sweater is our first look at the dragon.
Besides, we know Benedict Cumberbatch will not only be providing the voice of Smaug but also motion capture so I’m guessing the final design for Smaug isn’t finished yet. But what do you guys think? Is this likely what Smaug will look like in The Hobbit?
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is due on December 14, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again releasing a year later on December 13, 2013.
