Production is finally underway on the upcoming American science fiction film Ender’s Game, thanks to the guidance of Wolverine director Gavin Hood and studio Odd Lot Entertainment.
Taking place in an alternate version of Earth’s future, Ender’s Game follows the adventures of young Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, who was taken at a very young age to the Battle School to begin training for a war against an alien race known as the Formics. After the years of “development hell” for the Orson Scott Card series, which is set to be released in theaters on March 15th, 2013, we’re going to have to keep waiting a while for any footage.
Until then, the official production blog that was released last month has been leaking shots from the set – Hugo‘s Asa Butterfield crew chair and a door from the set. This latest shot from the production actually has the kids in Ender’s prepping for their roles (kind of). Check out the picture and explanation after the jump:
“Houston, we have a problem. We don’t know how to land the Shuttle.” Good thing it’s just a simulator safely on the ground at SPACE CAMP in Huntsville, Alabama. Aramis, Moises, Asa & Suraj (pictured above from a monitor in the MISSION CONTROL ROOM ) and the rest of our cast agreed that to do Ender’s Game right, they had to train as though they were really headed into ZERO G. And this wasn’t just an afternoon spent taking a vanity tour. From the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), which simulates extra-vehicular shuttle missions in Earth’s orbit, to the microgravity training chair that prepared astronauts for moonwalks during the Apollo program, the week at Space Camp was genuine prep for the feeling of reality that this movie deserves. And after all, the army that trains together stays together.”
As for the younglings mentioned in the little quote above, they’re Aramis Knight, who plays Bean; Moises Arias, who plays Bonzo; Butterfield, who will naturally play Ender; and Suraj Partha as Alai. As for that older kid with the beard, we’re pretty sure he works for Huntsville space camp, where training is currently taking place. It’s not much to go on, seeing as the only one in some kind of costume is the bearded man but, hey, at least this proves the studio is actually getting these kids ready for filming.
Ender’s Game also stars Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, Harrison Ford, and Ben Kingsley.
