Cancel all of your plans for May 4th, 2014 — Disney has announced that Captain America 2 will premiere on that day, a mere 25 months from now. I know, I know, these things are always subject to change (Star Trek 2) and as I said, it is approximately 25 months away, but still, progress.
No word yet on a plot synopsis or a designated big bad, but we do know that they are looking at directors (F. Gary Gray and the Russo Brothers top the list), and the present writers seem to want the film to touch on the WW2 era where the first film took place, though those comments are from August of last year.
According to Disney “The second installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.” Does that leave room for flashbacks? Perhaps, but it seems like Captain America will be doing his heroing in the “present day”… 2 years after The Avengers debuts next month.
Captain America 2 will also follow the Shane Black helmed Iron Man 3 (May 2013) and Thor 2 (November 2013). 2015 is the rumor for a prospective Avengers sequel, and then we can just start the wheel all over again for the next installments — that is unless Marvel makes my unauthorized screenplay, Quips and Carnage: The Agent Phil Coulson Story and shakes things up a bit.
Fresh Avengers pic.
Hey kids, wanna see a new pic from The Avengers? Of course you do, and here it is — Captain America, apparently doing a mid-battle Tebow, because there is no better time to have JC take the wheel.
