id Software founder and developer of the classic first person shooter Doom, John Romero, was once the hottest name in the gaming world. Sadly, after the failure of PC shooter Daikatana- the game that promised John would “make you his bitch”– Romero seemingly drifted into gaming obscurity.

Although gaming has somehow managed to move on and evolve without the man who coined the term “Deathmatch”, it looks like he’s about to return to the medium to make more bitches.

Yahoo broke the news of his return to the field:

John Romero, one of the chief architects of the seminal first-person shooter Doom, is returning to the genre that made him a celebrity.

It’s been a dozen years since Romero has made a shooter, but in an interview with Eurogamer, he confirmed plans to return to making action games, though he’s not ready to divulge a lot of details yet.

Other then adding that the game would be “MMO-ish” and the character would grow and get better over time, Romero said he “learned his lesson about talking too soon about specific game features and release dates”.

So, what do you think, is it time that the granddaddy of the shooter returns to the top of the gaming heap or are his dreams of a comeback about to get tea-bagged?
