It’s quite the expected but no less fabulous bit of news today, Game of Thrones has been renewed for a third season! After the first two episodes of its second season pulled in incredible ratings for HBO, not to mention its popularity on the television black market, of course it was going to be renewed. Game of Thrones is a massive hit, even among the non-nerd crowd.
Okay, so what do we know about the third season? It’s to be based roughly on the first half of the third book in George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire series. A Storm of Swords is 1,216 pages so yes, thank you, we need them to break this book into two seasons. Otherwise some of the series’ best content might be lost!
During a recent interview with EW, David Benioff, executive producer, had this to say about a third season,
As George and all his fans have said for a long time, there’s no way to do it in a single season, so it’s being broken into two. We’re still kind of figuring out exactly what goes where. We don’t want it to feel like a two-part season… From the beginning we’d always prayed we’d get to season 3 at least because, you know, two of our favorite scenes from the entire saga are in season 3.
One of those favorite scenes must be “The Red Wedding.” And I’ll just leave it at that. ::cue mysterious music::
Umm, who’s excited for those dragons to get bigger?!??
