If you hadn’t noticed, amongst all the internet hype and media onslaught of trailers and TV spots, there’s quite a few super hero movies to look forward to this summer. The big 3 are The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises. It is arguable on which is the most anticipated. In my opinion, I’d say The Avengers is the film fans are more eager to see. I would categorize Spider-Man as the most curious (what with it being a reboot and all) and The Dark Knight Rises the most polarizing. Speaking in regards to the latter, I think there are two kinds of fans: those who have unquestionable excitement and enthusiasm towards the threequel and those who do not believe “In Nolan We Trust”. Those with questionable faith would say The Dark Knight (2nd in the franchise) has been put on a pedestal as the greatest super hero movie of all time. It’s too good for it’s own good. Meaning, it’s the pinnacle of the Batman franchise. It would seem impossible for another Batman film to match or encompass it. These pessimists are essentially saying if The Dark Knight Rises doesn’t beat TDR it will be a disappointment.
Now, while this is all discussion worthy, we have a website claiming Nolan has indeed made a better film than the masterpiece, The Dark Knight.
A “reliable source” for Cosmic Book News is reporting that his friend has seen a rough cut of The Dark Knight Rises and calls it, “a flawless movie.” Here’s the quote in question:
It is one of those films that leaves you on the edge of your seat much like The Dark Knight did, in that it feels like a rollercoaster, like you have no idea where the story will go. I have been told a summary of the movie, and I definitely don’t want to spoil it, but if you think you know where it is heading, think again!
Catwoman is more in line with the comics than people think despite her not having a whip or cowl.
It’s more character driven and less about looks. Bane is so frickin’ ruthless it’s bad, like Joker is crazy and does his crimes on a whim in any style; Bane is like a freight train and has the city bricking it.
I don’t see anything that could tell me that this person saw the film. All he is saying is basically what we already know. Stuff that won’t be able to be proven wrong on when the movie does come out.
So, just to clarify, this is a rumor that one person has the opinion that TDKR is better than TDK. I’d be ecstatic if it was true because that would mean it’s powerhouse of a movie. For now, I’ll set my expectation a little lower and simply settle on the fact that Nolan has consistently delivered quality stories and great characterization.
In other Dark Knight Rises news. Warner Bros. has just confirmed that the new trailer for TDKR will in fact be attached to Marvel’s future blockbuster, The Avengers.
Deadline spoke with an unnamed Warner Bros. executive about the decision to include the third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises with The Avengers.
“Yes, our 3rd trailer will be out with The Avengers. We see this placement as a good strategic decision. We always want our trailers to be seen with films that people want to see — and a lot of people will be going to The Avengers! It will provide the best potential exposure for The Dark Knight Rises. It’s a big positive for everyone!”
Huzzah! Make that another reason to see The Avengers!
The Dark Knight Rises cast sees the return of Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Nestor Carbonell and Michael Caine along with franchise newcomers Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Burn Gorman, Diego Klattenhoff and Alon Aboutboul.
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012.
