If you made $20 million in one night, wouldn’t you consider that a success?
Of course, Hollywood plays at a whole other level, and while midnight screenings of The Avengers have reportedly hauled in an extra $20 million added to the movie’s overseas haul of a kagillion dollars, it sadly did not break any records. Here’s the word according to Deadline:
Rival studios tell me that Marvel’s The Avengers from Disney did not set a record for midnight showings — and made $20 million from about 2,500 North American theaters. The midnight record is still Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $43.5M. Disney has not released an official number yet.
The all-time record for midnight screenings remains held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 at $40 million-plus, but don’t feel too sorry for Joss Whedon and Co. because The Avengers is expected to cash in nearly $600 million worldwide by the end of the weekend.
Have you seen Avengers yet, Bastards? What did you think?
