After the sudden mid-season hiatus, the fan-fueled revival and the triumphant return of Dan Harmon‘s hit TV series Community, the network has given the green light for season four to air some time in 2012-2013.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed earlier today that Sony Pictures will begin filming some time after the final three episodes air back-to-back one week from tonight on May 17th. While our time with the Greendale Community College will be quite a bit shorter than most other shows on the network with only 13 episodes in the upcoming season, we should be thankful; NBC could have just given everyone the finger and left the show in TV land limbo.

Starring Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong and Chevy Chase, this fourth season may be its last if the network has its way this time.

The return of the third season didn’t go as they had hoped, receiving only modest viewership ratings and with the sudden departure of writer-producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan who left for 20th Century Fox, the season became more of a “here you go, be happy” kind of deal. Let’s face it, the only reason the remainder of season three was filmed and aired was because of the fans that were left after all the campaigning for the season’s completion.

Despite rumors of fan pushes and petitions online for “six seasons and a movie”, season four may become the graduation year for the students of Greendale and fans might have to accept that.

What do you think? Should NBC push for yet another season or has Community seen it’s last days?
