I never thought I’d say this, but it seems that there’s movement on development of the sequel to Blade Runner. You’ll recall that recently, Sir Ridley Scott recruited one of the original screenwriters on Blade Runner, Hampton Fancher, to write the script for the proposed sequel. And now that Fancher is at work on the script, Scott is talking about what role Harrison Ford might play in the sequel.
“I don’t think it’ll be Harrison [starring]. But I’ve got to have him in it somewhere. That’d be amusing,” Scott told The Independent while promoting Prometheus. Scott has already said that Ford’s character Deckard won’t be the main focus, instead the protagonist will be a new female character.
As for timetable to production, Scott will be following up Prometheus with the drug trafficking movie The Counselor starring Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt. If the script comes together, Blade Runner part 2 might be his next movie, which could put it on track for a 2014 release date., which is really weird to think about.
Prometheus, meanwhile, will be released on June 8.
