Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are iconic to those in the know, producing such satirically excellent films as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  The third in what is affectionately referred to as the ‘Blood and Ice Cream’ trilogy is The World’s End, and it is finally in production, as most Pegg/Wright fans no doubt already know.

They’ve been pretty non-descriptive about the project so far, the secretive bastards, giving only slight hints concerning what the movie will be about.  They’ve revealed that it will be centered on a pub crawl that a group of reunited friends undergo while some sort of world-ending event is taking place.  Recently, however, they’ve dropped a few more hints at what fans might expect.

The pub crawl is supposed to encompass a quest to visit 12 bars, culminating in drinks at a place called ‘The World’s End’.  Whilst on their journey, they must deal with said potentially cataclysmic event.  The overlords of movie magic also stated that this time around they are looking to do a darker and more serious film that focuses on the characters and their personal relationships.

Not enough for you?  You want to know what the ‘event’ is?  Well, they’re not saying yet.  What they have done is drop a few hints so that people will go web-crawling to try and figure it out for themselves.

It has been referred to as “social sci-fi” along the lines of writers such as John Christopher and John Wyndham.  Social sci-fi means that the movie will be dealing more with disaster as it relates to human failing as opposed to everything going to shit just cause a big rock is hurtling towards Earth.  Think H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine or Orwell’s 1984.  The names they dropped seem to suggest that aliens might be involved in some way, though this is unconfirmed as of yet.

Shooting on The World’s End begins in fall and it is currently set for a 2013 release.  Until then, fans will have to wait by their computers for more hints.
