WARNING! This article contains a major spoiler. If you haven’t seen The Avengers yet then it’s best check back later.

Face it, Coulson’s death was quite weak and unbecoming of a character who’s had his hands in nearly every Marvel film. Men loved him, ladies wanted to sleep with him and Joss Whedon got to tell him how to act: Clark Gregg has became synonymous with S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson. Even after his death at the hands of Loki, fans are demanding his return in some way, possibly as the living rendition of the Avengers android, Vision.

Just offing the president of the Captain America fan club with nothing more than a pointy stick is not how a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent should meet his end… and maybe it won’t be. So with all these rumors and theories going around the ‘net, it was only a matter of time before Coulson himself spoke up.

Seemingly magically healed by the power of Hollywood magic, Clark spoke with MTV and discussed the future and coming back in spandex instead of a suit:

“Vision is cool. But I would hate to be any AI life form. If I got to come back, I would need to still be somebody who could wisecrack, because my favorite part of the job was that if anybody was going to tease anybody about their diva superhero outfit or whatever, it would be me… I really love what Joss did with Agent Coulson in The Avengers. It seems like an idea that was in the cards, not only from Joss but from Marvel, in that you needed to ground the movie in some real emotion and stakes. I loved playing that guy, and I’ll miss playing him, but I was glad to have that job.”

And just like the character he played in the franchise blockbuster, Clark had a little fun teasing all the conspiracy fanboys. Fueling the flames of Avengers 2 rumors, Clark said:

“That might be hard. I might be sad … I guess I would [visit the set] if I was dressed up as a sentient android.”

Should Coulson return as the android of the Avengers team? And even if this happened (and the chances are damn slim) would it be something that fans would even accept? Coulson was the “every man” of the ensemble cast; he didn’t need a super suit, Gamma powered strength or a super solider serum, he just needed a few good one-liners and snappy suit. Whatever happens, will you be able to accept it?
