There’s been a lot of speculation about what Marvel‘s next project will be, especially given that their schedule is pretty much set through to the middle of 2014. From what we know, Iron Man 3 will be released on May 3, 2013; Thor 2 on November 15, 2013; Captain America 2 on April 4, 2014; and an unnamed Marvel film will be released on May 16, 2014. Apparently there’s also another unnamed film that’ll happen some time in late 2014 or early 2015. So obviously we’re all waiting with bated breath to discover which story Marvel Studios still take on for those mysterious projects.
The most recent rumor is that Black Panther will be one of the big upcoming comic book movies. There isn’t a whole lot backing this up, but Mark Bailey was commissioned to write a screenplay last year and perhaps that was worth giving the go-ahead.
According to /Film, there have been little hints in the other Marvel films:
There have been nods to the Black Panther in a couple other Marvel films: we saw his home country Wakanda on a map in Iron Man 2, and that land is the home of the stuff from which Captain America’s shield is made. And there’s stuff in the classic Black Panther story that would fit in with the world Marvel has built on screen so far: T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, ingests an herb that both links him to his god, and provides superhuman strength. Convenient! T’Challa’s aim is to make Wakanda a technological powerhouse, and the character has been a member of the Avengers.
It might be interesting to see how Marvel decides to pull this off if this is one of their greenlit projects. What do you guys think? Is there anything else you’d rather see? (I’m still bummed that Runaways is on the back-burner.)
