Well this is a little surprising, that news about the Justice League movie, you might have heard about it, turns out
Variety was told to keep quiet about it almost a full year!* I know, right? Meaning they’ve been making serious plans about a Justice League movie even before The Avengers blew up the box office. And according to a mutual friend of both Justice League scribe, Will Beall and comic book writer, Mark Millar this movie is going to be “dark and mature.”
Here’s the blurb Millar shared on his forum, Millar World,
A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They’re great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn’t what I expected. But word on Gangster Squad is great too so I feel this is in really good hands.
Who’d of thunk it? Sure, this in no way actually speaks to the quality of Beall’s script, and chances are whatever version their mutual friend saw wasn’t the final draft, but a gritty Justice League? Could it work? If handled properly then yes, and hell, if WB was able to keep a project of this magnitude under wraps for so long, anything is possible.
Correction: Warner Bros. and Beal kept the secret, not Variety and writer Jeff Sneider, as verified by Sneider on Twitter. The source got it wrong, and so did we.
