According to the film industry “Bible” Variety, Community executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo are in final negotiations to direct the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.
The choice is, shall we say, unconventional. The Russos have directed episodes of Community, Happy Endings and Arrested Development, and they’re last big screen credit is the 2006 comedy You, Me and Dupree. What in any of this says, “ready for an epic superhero sequel,” I’m not sure, but The Russos beat filmmakers George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) for the gig.
If The Russos do indeed sign-up (it’s not for certain, and remember that there were at least three people in final negotiations to direct Thor 2 before Alan Taylor signed on the dotted line), they will direct Chris Evans, whose returning as the Star-Spangled Avenger from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who also return as screenwriters from the first Captain America.
Marvel had no comment on the matter, which might mean there’s still a chance that The Russos might not be the ones to bring Cap back on his next solo adventure. But I guess we’ll see…
What do you Bastards think about the choice of The Russos for Captain America 2?
