Okay, I get it, Catwoman is sexy. That’s basically been her defining characteristic since DC rebooted their entire line of comics last fall. Remember when she and Batman did the nasty in her first issue, and it was, y’know, kind of nasty? Oh! And how about when they first reintroduced Ms. Selina Kyle we didn’t see her face until several pages into the book, after prominent shots of her bewbz and ass? Now DC has really outdone themselves. Just look at the cover for Catwoman’s zero issue (above). Just look at it! What the fuck is going on?!? Sure comics are known for twisting their female characters into unbelievable contortions in order to show off their goods, but this?! How is this even sexy?
Not surprising, most people find this cover ridiculous. DC Women Kicking Ass has a wonderful essay on why this cover is so terrible, beyond the ridiculousness of the pose, that you should really check out. Notably she remarks on why is this how DC has chosen to portray Catwoman to new readers when they’re all about to meet Anne Hathaway‘s Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. (I’m not even delving into why DC is doing zero issues and renumbering their entire line, again, because one post can only contain so much idiocy.) How do the two even relate? Here’s Hathaway’s Catwoman,
Quite sexy, right? And yes, you can see both tits and ass, but it’s proportional, realistic, plausible. Now compare to above. Who would you rather have a midnight rendezvous with over the skyline of Gotham? Not Catwoman the sexy bouncing ball, that’s for sure.

I’m over how comics tend to visually represent women and try to only support books where the artists draw sexy and sensible super heroines. But it’s impossible to avoid this Catwoman mess. She looks like a ball of leather with limbs, tits, and ass sticking out at weird angles. Thank the internetz for being able to turn what is another unfortunate misstep in the representation of women in comics and into a hilarious movement. Here’s a quick smattering of different artist’s responses to the cover,
“So, you want to show both t!ts AND @ss on a character with feline attributes? Here you go, DC Comics. You’re welcome.” — Megan Rosalarian Gedris
“Figure 1 is the issue cover. Figure 2 is the closest I could get to duplicating it in Daz3D without breaking the model’s back. Figure 3 is the same exact pose as Figure 2, just from the side. You’ll notice some of the differences: The pose, specifically the relationship of butt to bosom. The right arm placement, which is impossible without dislocating her shoulder. Her head placement can’t be duplicated. If you look at Figure 3, you’l notice that the curve of her back is already incredibly pronounced, even in this truncated pose.” — Giaaeron
“This one is by Cameron Stewart, who given that he was an artist on the last volume of Catwoman, does know a little about the character. He tweeted today, “I really don’t know about this new Catwoman design.”" DC Women Kicking Ass
Yup, there you go, your new, SEXY Catwoman. All I can add is seriously, DC, WTF!?!
