Super hero films are all the rage these days and if it’s one thing that fans certainly wouldn’t mind seeing, it’s Superman and Batman being able to share some screen time together.  Well, it looks like that event is to be, though not in the way many might expect.  We’re not talking about a Justice League film here, but Lego: The Piece of Resistance.  This 3-D comic book feature will be going to the big screen, done in the quirky and visually enticing style that has made the many Lego video games so popular.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) and co-directed by Chris McKay (Robot Chicken), L:TPoR will be a mixture of live action and animation.

The story will follow a Lego-man by the name of Emmet who, according to Variety magazine’s scoop on the story is:

…an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego mini-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.

Voice actors so-far signed for the flick include Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) in the lead and the recently signed Will Arnett as Batman.  Lord and Miller are also reportedly looking to convince Channing Tatum to take some time out of his very busy schedule to do the voice of Superman, but nothing has been as of yet confirmed.

Legos plus Batman and Superman equals win!  It may not carry the same dark drama that one has come to expect from something such as Nolan’s Batman series (quite the opposite, in fact), but it will most certainly be epic.

Lego: The Piece of Resistance is currently scheduled for a February 28th, 2014 release.
