Before Doctor Who had this modern resurgence there was one man who was most identifiable with the series, Tom Baker. Due to him having the longest tenure as the Doctor and his incredibly long and recognizable scarf, Baker simply was the Doctor for most Americans. At least for those who took the time to watch the strange, shoe-string budget, British sci-fi series late into the night on PBS. And now, after famously missing out on the series’ 20th anniversary, the The Daily Express is reporting the Fourth Doctor will be returning for the big 5-0.
According to a show insider,
It will be fitting to have Tom back to mark the 50 years. He was a big part of the show’s success and is much-loved by the fans.
There’s no doubt bringing back all the living Doctors is something fans are desperate to see but I’d bet Tom Baker tops the list as who people want to see return the most. We know Baker himself would be game for a return, recently saying at convention,
I think if they ask me nicely or I can see what they want me to do, I’d consider it. I think the fans have been so good to me, they’d expect me to at least make an appearance.
Though, it should be taken into account this is one of many rumors surrounding the 50th anniversary. Another being the 50th will be Matt Smith‘s final voyage in the TARDIS, which is then rebuked by Smith saying he’d love the play the Doctor – forever. And of course, as usual, Steven Moffat and the rest of Team Who are keeping completely mum on the matter entirely.
What are you guys expecting from Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary? Something epic and awesome, right? I think a big ‘ole Doctor reunion would fit the bill perfectly, but how will they manage it? What kind of an excuse would they make for why many of the Doctor’s past selves are lookin’ old and a little paunchy? Would they play other characters than their Doctors?
