Hellboy 3 – nobody though it would get done. Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro have expressed on multiple occasions that they weren’t too jazzed about trying to turn out a third installment of the franchise, despite the hordes of begging and pleading fans. Now, it looks like they may have changed their mind on the subject and Hellboy 3 will finally see production.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, del Tor had these ominous words to say:
I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3].
Perlman, who happened to be with him at the time added:
The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.
Strangely enough, it was Perlman’s recent sense of charity that may have kicked the third film into gear. As many already know, Perlman donned the red skin and horns again to visit a kid who wanted to meet Hellboy via the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This act of kindness brought del Toro around, who had this to say on the matter:
I’ve encountered a lot of kids who are fans of the movies, but to hear the story of this kid who was watching the movies while going through treatment, it really just moved me a lot. We’re going to make an effort to do it. I hope it happens.
The creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola, still hasn’t been approached about the film, though no doubt he’ll be on board to bring his iconic character to the big screen one last time (or until someone tries to reboot the damn thing).
Thanks to geektyrant for the heads-up.
