Could There be Dark Elves in ‘Thor: The Dark World’?

We’ve only just learned the title of the Asgardian’s second movie and already we’ve got a pretty nice hint at what direction they’ll be taking. Thor: The Dark World, which releases November 8, 2013, will supposedly force Thor and his allies to contend with elves. Dark elves. Probably from that dark world, y’know.

The site “I Review Too…” snagged an interview with a stuntman working on Thor 2, James Grogan - go look at this dude’s IMDB, his mass of work is crazy impressive – where he talked about what the stunt guys on set are training to do,

The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2. I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.

I guess the usual elf stunt guys are still busy with The Hobbit. But anyway, there you go, elves in Thor 2. Does this mean we’ll be seeing the Dark Elves and their leader, Malekith the Accursed show up? It’s possible. There is a story where Malekith and Loki team up to steal The Casket of Ancient Winters, and we know Tom Hiddleston will be reprising the role, so maybe.

Elves? Malek-who? Casket of what? If you’re not familiar with these names and things from Marvel comics, Comic Book Movie’s got a nice little refresher,

Dark Elves - The Dark Elves are ruled over by Malekith the Accursed, and the most powerful amongst their ranks was Algrim the Strong. However, Algrim was betrayed by Malekith in a bid to kill Thor. Algrim was dropped into lava and though he survived, he was critically wounded. The Beyonder transformed Algrim into the monstrous Kurse, who seemingly kills Malekith for the betrayal. Years later, Malekith reveals that he survived, and he sets forth an ultimately unsuccessful plot for Hercules to kill Alflyse, the Dark Elf Queen of the Eastern Spires.

The trio of Bitterhand, Wormwood, and Grendell serve Malekith loyally and have attempted to destroy Thor on several occasions, including once while Mjolnir was being reforged

Malekith the Accursed is a supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and has come into conflict with Thor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters.

The Casket of Ancient Winters - An Asgardian relic and the greatest weapon of Malekith the Accursed. When opened, it can reproduce the infinite icy cold of Niflheim. Later entrusted to the care of Edwin Jarvis, butler to the Avengers, by Thor. Causes its holder to grow younger gradually.

Then again, like with everything you hear about a movie before it actually comes out, this is rumor. But it does sound like an interesting tale for the sequel, what d’ya think?
