There is a lot of discussion on whether a remake of Evil Dead is what the world really needs.   The original film has become such a cult classic that to reboot it is considered by many to be nothing short of blasphemy.  But still, it has happened and the new flick is almost finished shooting.

The only saving grace in the project (and perhaps the only reason many will go to see it) is that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have been involved with the production.  Now, Raimi and Campbell, during a recent interview with MTV at Comic-Con, have officially endorsed the new film

Raimi had this to say:

I just think Fede Alvarez has really made a great horror movie.  It’s scary. The actors are great in it. It’s really gut-wrenching, real low budget and intense.

And Bruce Campbell added his own opinion:

You can expect to have a damn scary horror movie. There’s no Ash character — The Evil Book is going to torment a new set of kids, so it’s a remake, or a re-imagining or … a re-whatever word you want to use. It’s going to be re-scary.

Supposedly, this film will be a massive gore-fest and a little bit closer to what Raimi had intended the original to be.  Of course, this means that it will fall short of being the campy and comedic horror flick that we have grown to know and love over the years.

Hopefully, Raimi and Campbell are speaking from their hearts and not from their wallets on this one.  I will be there to check it out regardless.  What about the rest of you die-hard Evil Dead fanatics?
